We’re Betting Our Whole Company on the Nintendo Switch. Here’s Why.

Starting a game studio is a gamble. You have to pick your battles, choose your platforms wisely, and play to your strengths. After careful research, countless discussions, and a few late-night existential debates, we’ve made our decision.

We’re going all-in on the Nintendo Switch.

And no, we’re not crazy—at least, we don’t think we are. Here’s why we believe the Switch (and its inevitable successor) is the perfect platform for our studio’s future.

A Massive, Engaged Player Base (Now and in the Future)

The Nintendo Switch has sold over 140 million units—and with the Switch 2 (or whatever Nintendo calls it) on the horizon, that audience is only going to grow. Unlike PlayStation and Xbox, where players often stick to a handful of big-budget titles, Switch owners buy more games per system. They’re hungry for new experiences, indie gems, and creative gameplay—not just the same AAA blockbusters year after year.

For a small studio like ours, that means
more potential players who are actually willing to take a chance on something fresh.

Gameplay Over Graphics (A Battle We Can Actually Win)

Let’s be real, We cant compete with Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, or Spider-Man 2 yet. The budgets for those products are in the hundreds of millions, and their expensive price tags reflect that. But what about AA games on Switch?

  • $15 to $20 is our sweet spot.
  • Players expect fun, not just fidelity.
  • Indie hits like Hades, Stardew Valley, and Celeste prove you don’t need to chase photorealism to succeed.

We don’t need to sell a game at $80 just to break even, we believe that we can focus on making something GREAT at a fair price, and Switch players seem to love that!

Nintendo’s Indie-Friendly Approach
On other platforms and their corresponding marketplaces, a small developer may find it HARD to get noticed, but we feel like Nintendo has built a nice, welcoming ecosystem for indie studios to utilize.

  • Affordable dev kits: The Switch’s was only $500 per.
  • Direct publishing opportunities: No middle publisher needed.
  • Nintendo’s indie showcases: Gives smaller games visibility under an exciting presentation to the Nintendo audience.

For a brand-new studio like ours, all of this will be a huge advantage.

What About Steam Deck & Handheld PC players?
While we ARE prioritizing Switch, we’re not ignoring PC entirely. Our games will also launch on Steam, optimized for Steam Deck and other handhelds. The overlap we see between Switch players and Steam Deck players is growing, and we want to be where the portable gamers are.

So… Are We Crazy?
Maybe. Betting your entire company on oneplatform right out the gate could be a huge risk, but we believe in the Switch’s audience, it’s focus on fun over flash, and the opportunity it gives small devs like us to stand out.

We’re not trying to make the next Elden Ring. We’re just trying to make a game that feels engaging and fun, no matter if your sprawled out in your bed, waiting for your bus, or even just chilling on your couch with your handheld.

Wish us luck! Because if this works… it’s going to be awesome!
